grimacing, condescending weird jo. i don't think i've ever seen anything like this. the only thing close was al gore in 2000. the second thing? n.a debate is what was it about? here, look. joe biden had good good things he did okay on foreign policy and took the democrat line on entitlements but the guy who came across as thoughtful and deep and fluid and respectful was paul ryan. i thought that superb performance on his part tonight. third question is who is this aimed at? joe biden aimed at one group, democrats who were down in the dumps after president obama's performance last week, yin's pitch was to independent voters we've got a plan. we understand the big problems we've got a plan to deal with them. it's common sense that is practical. we share values and view of how things ought to be. we're going to do something about it.

the final question is, is, what is the impression left by this? what is the, what did this do to the arc of the narrative being built about the debates? joe biden did do good for democratic ticket by making up for some of the absence of energy and focus and aggressive negs on the part of president obama but on the other hand it sort of there by raises a question why did it take the number two guy to do what you expected of the number one guy to do? who would have thought adult in tonight's debate was 27 years younger than his competitor? >> greta: i read your twitter comment. everybody's account tonight to see what people are saying and thinking. let me ask you about the cnn poll. it's sort of interesting. cnn post-debate poll has vice president ryan at 48%. and i mean, rather, representative ryan at 48% and vice president biden at 44%.

so four percent difference. >> yes. look. most debates are sort of in a middle range. you have partisans lining up on their sides as long as your candidate does well, partisan goes to their corners. you've got 8% undecided that is larger than the group of undecided in this race. what matters here is impressions of the days ahaechld how many times are you going to see grimacing and kbrin something we can have legitimate disagreements about joe biden saying nobody going to lose any medicare coverage and paul ryan says yes you're going to have seeners dropped off. paul ryan says 20 million seniors and there is disagreement that's are going to come out in the wash. two interesting things about

tonight one has been talked about. it's how joe biden denied administration was told about security concerns then blamed the explanation for benghazi and unwillingness to declare it a terrorist attack as the responsibility of the intelligence agency. this is not going to sit well with a lot of people in washington and further raises a question of what did the administration know? other thing grabbing my ear is something not much attention has been paid to. they got into an exchange about the economy. biden said look. igts in a bad shape because you, paul ryan voted for two wars that were put on a credit card then listed off a number of things then said quote i was there and voted against that. i said we can't afford that. wait a minute. joe biden voted both for auj saigs of the use of force resolution for afghanistan and plus voted for resolution to go to war against iraq.

tonight on national tv said i voted against that. i said we can't afford that. but wait a minute. he voted in favor of that and both of these things i think are going to come back to haunt him. >> there is a point about libya. what he said about liba. through the state department and intelligence committee under the bus. i'll tell you where we're going see it again that, is at the presidential debate. and there is a lot of criticism of the president he's sort of late to the game in terms of identifying it as terrorism. and now, it turns out tonight as vice president a little bit of a problem with that. i think that is going to come back to haunt him. you talk about smirking and smiling. we're going to see a lot of that. before getting on set tonight, i received what everybody else in the media did. that is the first rnc video. what it does is that says the name of it is it says issues we face are no laughing matter. and so you can be sure that by the time we start our news

he said job growth in slept slower than in august. he said august slower than job growth in july. does that mean we should expect job growth in october will be slower and more grim news on the horizon? or not? >> i don't think so. and as you go looking at those, that is a heavily parse statement. i think that is before there are revisions and that gets resized and they were up for the previous month. and so i think if congressman ryan's point is that the job market is not moving yes. that is true. i mean, the private sector added over 2 and a half years about five million jobs that set up a pace is okay but not that great that.

reflects the fact that the economy is growing at a modest pace. the thing hard here is that as modest as growth as been in the u.s. that is the fastest growth in the advanced world. so the world economy is in a tough spot. we're all struggling trying to get out of it. >> greta: and the republicans always say and tell me if this is wrong, is there a risk it will be stalled or slow fd taxes are raised on the rich? is that true? >> i don't think that is true. there are massive amounts of economic research on the data on that question. and most all of that research does not suggest that high income tax rates have an especially big impact on the growth rate in the u.s.. if you just take a step back and say okay, the first three

the vice president seems to have his facts fuzzy z stephanie blaming romney. >> the administration has a problem with the libya story. everyone knows what happened and everyone read all of the accounts, these conflicting accounts and they vai problem with this. and they need to know it. they need to figure this out. and if biden says something today that turns out to be, can be proven wrong in the next couple days that actually divides president and president knew their requests for more security from benghazi to the state department and they're turned down, they knew it all along. that is going to be a huge problem. but this story is a huge problem if that is never determined and if he hasn't made a comment tonight. they need, president obama needs to come up with a straight answer that makes sense. before he is asked bit. he will be. next tuesday and the following week on the 22nd.

>> your thoughts on the problem this political aspect of it? >> i thought that moment was the worst. the weakest moment for joe biden in the debate. he said we just didn't know. we didn't know there has been this request from people on the ground in libya. and suggested they didn't know that it wasn't the movie when they're out there claiming the violence was a reaction to the video. so i thought this is just weakest moment and talking to democratic spinners afterwards, they didn't have a very good defense of this. they just said well, we don't know what anyone knew at this point. and we're taking vice president's word for it. >> do you have any information? i still can't figure out why the white house has been pushing this video. now they're packing up. and vice president biden blaming others and saying they didn't have information but what -- why have they been unwilling to confront this one to get it straight?
